VINTAGE - 2009
The ripening period, when the grapes swell and acquire their final lovely colours, has been a very good one - early and rapid.
Rain on the nights of August 10th and 11th brought
much-needed freshness and humidity to help the vines after several weeks of drought and warm winds.
Our teams practise two special measures, both solely by hand, in caring for the vineyards: thinning out the leaves, to give the grape bunches more exposure to the sun during the ripening period; and a "green harvest", in which grapes unlikely to reach peak maturity are removed, thus enhancing the growth of the remaining bunches. Both these operations are aimed at ensuring the highest possible quality.
The Cahors wine order, the Confrérie du vin de Cahors, expected to fix September 19th for the "ban des vendanges" (proclamation of the date for beginning the harvest).
